St. Mary's Robotics Club is an extracurricular activity for boys and girls aged 9 through 14.

Part of St. Mary’s STEM initiative (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), the Robotics Club combines elements of all four areas, as club members learn how to build and control robotic devices, and design their devices to compete in First Lego League competitions. Teams from over 200 participating Maryland schools compete at local, district and state levels. Selected winning state teams will be featured at the FLL  World Festival in St. Louis, in April 2011.

Volunteers are urgently needed. No robotics or technical background is required... we need people to supervise groups of 2 or 3 club members on specific projects. If you can help, please contact Mike Badamo (

2012 Club Update

On Sunday January 15, 2012 the "Mustangs" robotics team participated in their first-ever FLL competition, held at The Universities at Shady Grove campus.

Three team members participated in this "coopertition" event with 19 other teams. See us in action here

Each of the tasks for the robots had a specific purpose tied to the 2011-2012 "Food Factor Challenge" theme.

We learned a great deal by participating, about the basic design of the robot "platform", strategies for combining tasks in each mission, and how to prepare for the presentation and question-answering portions of the event. These should serve us well in preparing for future events.

St. Mary's team members in this event were Mathew B., Joe C., and Joshua T.

Rosalee B. also participated as a member of one of the Rockville Science Center teams.

Were any St. Mary's students members of other teams?
