On October 7th, St. Mary’s had its second Math Night and it was a great success with over 76 students in attendance as well as their families. Math Night grew from the question of how can we boost parent involvement in our math instruction here at St. Mary’s. Last May, we had our first Math Night where the focus was on how families can fight summer learning loss in math. Everyone enjoyed it and many asked when our next Math Night would be. This fall our focus was on what families can do to support math learning at home and to make math more enjoyable. We also focused on combating a fixed mindset with a growth mindset. Favorites from the evening were Mrs. Hulse’s Book and Game Fair, Mrs. Amaduzzi’s Family Game Night
Workshop, and Senora Silva’s Cooking with Math. We also had great raffle and door prizes for students to win. Families came away with many games and activities to play at home as a whole family. I know I can’t wait for the next one. Hope to see you all there.
