Greg Gannon Can Food Drive

Can you imagine what two million cans of food looks like? That is how many cans the Greg Gannon Canned Food Drive has collected since the 1980’s for those in need. It was discovered that food pantries were often low after the Thanksgiving holiday. That was when the Greg Cannon Food Drive was established. St. Mary’s School has participated for the last several years. This year, we collected a little over 1,000 cans of food, and 11,900 were collected overall.

Many cans were brought into the school and the students received an “out of uniform” day as a prize. Many St. Mary’s students volunteered on a cold Saturday morning to assist in collecting cans in nearby neighborhoods. St. Mary’s came up with the slogan “Cans of Hope,” and it appeared on all the t-shirts that volunteers wore this year. Cans of food really do represent hope to many people who are struggling. It shows we care, and they are not alone. “I am proud of our school for helping to give HOPE to those in need,” School Principal Mrs. Eisel said. Thanks to all those who volunteered and donated cans this year!
